Brockton is hoping to partner with the Mtis Nation of Ontario in an exiting new solar project.
This after the municipality dropped its original plans to install two solar panels at the cost of 200 thousand dollars.
With the cut in the rate per kilowatt an hour,
Councillor Chris Peabody says since the rate per kilowatt hour in Ontario was cut, it was not lucrative for Brockton to purchase solar panels on its own.
Instead the municipality is negotiating with the Metis of Ontario to bring a solar project to Brockton.
Under the proposed project, the Mtis will pay the capital costs for property owners to set up solar panels and they in turn will receive a cut in the revenue.
The same will apply to the municipality if the solar panels are located on municipal lands
Peabody is hopeful that some type of agreement can be reached soon.
The Mtis are looking for host communities to join with them on projects in the Green Energy Act.
