It’s a great day to sit down with your kids and read.
Although Wednesday January 26th is the actual date of Family Literacy Day — the County of Grey is holding an event today to celebrate all things interactive with your child and family.
Jill McFadden-Bartley — the Grey County Early Years Literacy Facilitator — says the event in Owen Sound is geared towards younger children getting involved in everything from crafts to reading.
McFadden-Bartley says the event is running at the Owen Sound Library and features stations for children and families to walk through.
The stations involve board games, making a game and of course reading and starts at 10am.
McFadden-Bartley says all events that are featured are interactive and show parents some ideas how to have fun inexpensively.
She stresses that literacy is not just reading but communicating in every day ways and having fun while achieving that goal.
There is another event going on at the same time in Markdale for families.
A kinder-music presentation and reading events take place at the Ontario Early Years Centre in Markdale starting at 10 AM.
All the events are free of charge and all are welcomed (preregistration was requested but they will accept people at the door.
