Port Elgin’s Pumpkinfest is one of Festivals & Events Ontario’s top 100 in the province.
Sally Hunt of the Saugeen Shores Chamber of Commerce says it’s a huge honour, as there are about 850 festivals and events for the committee to choose from.
Hunt says it’s great to be in the same category with events of the calibre of Canada Blooms in Ottawa, or Kitchener-Waterloo’s Oktoberfest.
She says it will also bring more interest to Pumpkinfest, because it will get more promotion through the directory of events printed each year by Festivals and Events Ontario.
Not only is Pumpkinfest considered a Top 100 event, it also won the best poster prize for the 100 thousand to 500 thousand dollar budget category.
Hunt says they also finished in the top three for best promotional campaign.
She says they’re already looking to this year’s event, which will switch dates to now always be the weekend before Canadian Thanksgiving (this year Pumpkinfest will fall on September 31st).
Hunt says this year’s theme is “Change,” and they have already designed a poster to reflect that.
She says those who are used to seeing orange and green posters will be surprised at their use of red.
Margaret Forsythe of Collingwood was recognized as the Volunteer of the Year at the same conference. She’s been a volunteer with the Elvis festival since its inception.
Several other festivals and events in Grey-Bruce were named to the top 100 list.
