The Bruce Grey Catholic School Board is kicking off a new campaign aimed at raising staff awareness about the value of organ donation.
Director of Human Resources Suzanne White says this ties in perfectly with their social justice initiatives.
White hopes their campaign will alleviate any concerns about organ donation.
White also hopes a number of their employees become organ donors.
She notes the number of people in Canada awaiting an organ donation is staggering.
In Ontario alone, over 15 hundred individuals await a life saving organ transplant.
Every three days, one person in Ontario dies before a match can be found.
The Bruce Grey Catholic Board launched a similar education program two years ago, aimed at increasing student awareness about organ donation.
White says its only fitting now that staff also receive a first hand lesson on the matter.
The slogan for their campaign is ‘Don’t take your organs to Heaven, because heaven knows we need them here.’
The program will target all staff including teachers, administrators, education assistants, librarians, custodians, clerical staff and I.T personnel.
