There is a fundraising dinner Thursday night for OSCVI students who are planning to go to Nicaragua to improve health care in the Central American country.
It’s being held at the OSCVI cafeteria and the doors open at 5 PM and you can get food until 6:30 PM.
OSCVI Teacher Gregg MacKay says the funds raised will help cover the costs of their trip to Nicaragua on May 12th.
He says they will work at seven rural clinics, a children’s hospital, at a feeding centre and tend to kids at two orphanages — one for babies and boys another for girls.
MacKay says he will travel with 14 OSCVI students as well as other teachers and local health care workers.
MacKay says they wanted to extend their health care class out of the school and this two week trip was a perfect opportunity.
The Grade 10 to 12 students are now collecting a variety of items to take to Nicaragua — including vitamins, Tylenol and Advil, School Supplies, toothpaste, toothbrushes and clothing.
The group is also holding a Trivia Night on March 23rd to help raise more money for the trip in May.
