The Special Olympics Teams in Grey, Bruce and Collingwood are headed to Thunder Bay today for the Provincial Winter Games.
Denise Katayama — whose daughter will be competing — tells us more than a dozen athletes are going, which is the largest team in Ontario.
She says the training keeps them very busy — with the athletes getting up at 8:30 AM for a warm up, followed by practice running gates at Blue Mountain.
Katayama also tells us competing makes the athletes more independent, and makes them feel special too.
The opening ceremonies are Thursday night, and Katayama tells us that the ceremonies will be just like the actual Olympics.
The events take place on Friday and Saturday, which will be followed by the closing ceremonies on Saturday night.
