The Ontario Good Roads conference opens Monday in Toronto.
It’s a chance for Mayor’s from across the province to get some one-on-one time with Ministers about issues that affect them.
Owen Sound Mayor Deb Haswell is meeting with Labour Minister Linda Jeffrey at 12:30 PM.’
Haswell is pushing the province to review the arbitration process following a settlement with firefighters in the city.
That settlement is pushing up overall costs close to 14 percent according to the Mayor, and she says the arbitrator needs to take into account what smaller centres can afford.
At the conference, Premier Dalton McGuinty will speak Monday morning.
Conservative leader Tim Hudak and NDP leader Andrea Horwath will also address the meeting.
Several municipalities in Grey and Bruce Counties are looking at walking out on the Premiers’ speech over the Green Energy Act.
They are upset that municipalities have no control over whether industrial wind turbines are built in their area.
However, Owen Sound Mayor Deb Haswell will not take part in any protest-walkout on the Premier.
She says it is disrespectful and rude, while accomplishing nothing.
The conference continues until Wednesday in Toronto.
