Owen Sound Council has decided to try something different in the hope of selling off surplus properties.
Right now, Owen Sound has over 160 surplus properties including 15 commercial sites and 34 residential sites.
Manager of Economic Development, Steve Furness says they decided to hire Don May, a registered professional planner.
May will be in charge of creating a detailed inventory of assets, identifying which ones are surplus, and establishing a long term property strategy.
He has signed a one year contract with the City.
Furness says the consultant is an expert in asset management and will provide a more proactive approach to unloading surplus City lands.
May is to report to the City Manager and council on a regular basis.
