Historical artifacts from the Walkerton jail have been returned to Bruce County.
We told you first last month about the two dozen artifacts that were removed by the province after it closed the jail.
The County fought to have them returned — and Warden David Inglis confirms they have received the items.
It turns out the items went to a staff person at the Corrections Ministry who was researching the history of jails for a book he’s writing.
The historical items include log books, 19th century prison uniforms, hats and handcuffs.
Bruce County argued it is the rightful owner of these artifacts since the 150 year old Walkerton jail was originally a County facility.
Inglis says they like to preserve our history and they are thrilled to have the artifacts returned.
He adds the items will eventually be on display at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in Southampton.
