A public meeting is being held tonight, to look at alternatives to on-street parking on 10th Street East between 9th Avenue and 11th Avenue East,
Now that the link to 16th Avenue East is open — traffic has been growing and Owen Sound Manager of Engineering Services Chris Webb says it’s becoming a dangerous situation.
Right now, there is some parking on the south side of 10th Street just past Tim Horton’s, and there is parking a bit further east along the other side of the roadway.
Webb says the biggest bottle-neck is just past the apartment building where the street goes from five lanes down to the original two lanes of traffic.
Tonight’s meeting will consider five options which range from doing nothing, to eliminating all parking and having a paved shoulder for pedestrians and bikes.
Also among the options would be allowing parking either on the south or north side.
The meeting begins at 7 PM on Wednesday night in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
Webb says once they get feedback from the public, staff will make a recommendation to council on what should be done about parking in the area.
