A 30 second video has won an Owen Sound teen a pretty big prize.
16 year old Kenny MacLaughlin says his friend saw an ad for the Ripzone/Powder Room “What’s Up 4 the Weekend?” contest.
He says he had filmed some video this past summer of his friend skateboarding, and decided to edit it down and submit it.
MacLaughlin says the judges were looking for something creative, and he knew he had something special.
The day he was filming, there were puddles, and MacLaughlin says he noticed the reflection off the puddles looked “pretty cool.”
So he decided to set his camera down and film it that way.
But MacLaughlin didn’t expect he’d win the grand prize.
He first won a weekly prize, which included a helmet camera and a coat as a prize.
Of the 11 weekly winners, his video was chosen, and he won an iMac computer.
MacLaughlin says he hopes to pursue the film industry in the future, by attending university and working toward being a director of photography.
He says his father is a communications-technology teacher, so that’s helped him learn things as well.
