The new detachment commander for the Grey County OPP says he wants to work closely with other area police forces.
Inspector Michael Guilfoyle will take over the top duties as of March 6th.
He started his OPP career at the Wiarton detachment in 1987, and currently works as the director of gaming enforcement for the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
Guilefoyle says he is excited to come back into the Grey County region.
He says his first priority is to understand the issues that have been identified by their officers, other local policing services, and the community.
He says he wants to do an overall evaluation of what they’re doing well and what they could be doing better.
A recent survey shows that a majority of Grey County residents are very happy with the police presence on local roads and highways, and Guilfoyle says traffic management will continue to be a focus.
He says it’s always important to continue reducing the number of accidents and fatalities on the roads.
Guilefoyle is replacing Detachment Commander Inspector Bob Mahlberg, who is going back to Temiskaming where he started his career in 1974.
