The MPP for Bruce Grey Owen Sound says the Liberal government can save the four tech centres in our region.
As we first told you this week — the business committee for the Bluewater public school board is recommending the four centres stay closed due to financial concerns.
The centres in Kincardine, Hepworth, Hanover and Meaford were closed last year in order to save 840 thousand dollars.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MPP Bill Walker says he will press the provincial government to change the funding formula to keep the tech centres open.
Walker says the centres play a key role in providing local students with personal, social and skill building opportunities.
He feels there is a big difference in funding urban schools and rural schools — and he will ask Education Minister Laurel Broten to make it a level playing field.
The Bluewater public school board will vote on the tech centre recommendation on February 21st.
