Large ticket Donors to the Owen Sound Regional Rec Centre fundraising campaign, are being recognized in a special way.
The fundraising committee is planning on a 21 foot long engraved stone donor wall recognizing more than 200 donors who have contributed five thousand dollars or more to the project.
City Council has approved the construction of the donor wall.
Communications and Fundraising Co-ordinator Lisa Billings says currently, donors are recognized on the Rec Centre web site, and they will also be recognized thru digital media at the site of the new centre.
Over 700 people, organizations and businesses have donated four million dollars to the Family Y led capital campaign.
To be constructed from honed, Algonquin limestone panels and installed near the 125 thousand square foot buildings south entrance, the donor recognition wall is itself a donation to the project.
Rec Centre Design Architect Duff Balmer of Perkins and Will Canada donated design work.
And Billings says Owen Sound-area stone supplier Ledgerock has donated the cut stone materials.
Final design for the donor wall kicks off the final phase of the five million dollars, local fundraising campaign led by a volunteer committee of the Family Y for the Regional Recreation Centre.
Billings says anyone hoping to be included on the huge engraved stone donor wall, needs to make a 5 thousand dollar plus donation by March 1st, to ensure a spot on the wall.
It should be finished in time for the official opening of the 39 million dollar facility.
No date is set for the Rec Centre opening at this point.
