Registration is now open for the 3rd annual Bayshore Race in Owen Sound.
The event is a fundraiser for the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation, and Race Director Greg Nicol tells us they’ve raised over 40 thousand dollars in the past two years.
He says all of the money goes to the purchase of medical equipment for the hospital, and adds we never know when we might need to use it ourselves.
Nicol says last year over 400 people participated, and this year they hope to grow to 500 racers.
He says there are different categories so it’s easy for anybody to take part.
There is a timed half-marathon — which Nicol says is a great starting point for those training for other marathons to gauge how they are doing so far.
There are also 10K and 5K races, a 5K Fun Walk, and a 1K kid’s race for 6-13 year olds.
Nicol says it’s great to have a race like this in our own backyard, so that local athletes don’t always have to travel to compete.
And he says it will bring other competitors to the region, and turn the event into a destination race.
The race is scheduled for Sunday, August 26th.
Early bird registration is open now until August 1st, and after that rates will go up.
