Veyance Technologies Canada has decided to close it’s Owen Sound operation.
The company makes power transmission belts for automotive and industrial applications.
The operation is in the Goodyear Plant on 3rd Avenue East, along Owen Sounds’ east shoreline.
Veyance confirmed the news through a news release emailed to Bayshore Broadcasting News on Wednesday — blaming an excess of plant capacity in product lines manufactured in the Scenic City.
The operation has been downsized over the past few years in attempts to delay this action.
Veyance officials say employees have worked hard to sustain performance and maintain customer satisfaction, but they cannot continue to operate the facility.
The local Union and Veyance will now enter discussions to negotiate an orderly plant shutdown.
An employee at Veyance tells Bayshore Broadcasting News, the plant will close in July of this year — but it’s expected the operation will end much sooner.
A meeting is being held Thursday to confirm the details.
Veyance had more than 30 workers at the Owen Sound plant.
