Kincardine has received a special honour from the Ontario Parks Association and the town of Goderich.
Goderich Parks Superintendent Martin Quinn and OPA President Ray Hurd presented the “Protecting Tomorrow Today” award to Kincardine Mayor Larry Kraemer at Wednesday’s Council meeting.
Quinn explains Kincardine was the first municipality to step up and offer help in the wake of the devastating tornado that struck Goderich on August 21st, 2011.
He says the very next day, Kincardine sent volunteers to help with the clean-up and restoration in the town.
Quinn notes Kincardine’s help was greatly appreciated, not only because of their swiftness to act — but because of how many hands were needed to help out.
He says Goderich officials have worked closely with the OPA, to clear damaged trees and plant new ones, while rehabilitating the town’s park areas.
He adds planning is underway to restore the heavily damaged town square in the spring.
Kincardine Mayor Larry says it feels good to be recognized for good Samaritan work.
