Our federal govermment has closed off any new applications to it’s Eco-Energy Retrofit program.
The program provides grant money to homeowners who add insulation to their home, install new energy saving windows and doors or upgrade their heating systems.
Energy audits need to be done prior to the work being done on a home, and afterwards to ensure it was done properly.
Late last month — Natural Resources Minister Joe Oliver slammed the door on new applications, when the number of registered homeowners hit 250 thousand.
Bruce Grey Owen Sound MP Larry Miller says the program was a good thing, keeping contractors busy and reducing our energy usage but when their target was reached, the federal government had to close it down.
Ottawa budgeted 400 million dollars for the Eco-Energy program in 2011.
Although new applicants are not accepted, Miller says anyone who is registered and is having work done is okay.
They have until March 31st to complete the work and then until June 30th to get their Energy audit completed.
