Officials with the Alzheimer Society of Grey Bruce are over the moon.
More than 61 thousand dollars was raised at Saturday’s annual Walk For Memories across the region.
The amount is one of the largest collected ever — marking the third most successful round of walks in the 15 year history of the event.
More than 100 walkers in Owen Sound raised more than 35 thousand of that, in Hanover, 32 walkers brought in 14 thousand and in Saugeen Shores, 32 people raised 7 thousand dollars.
This year, officials were impressed that more than 17 thousand dollars was brought in through the website — almost three thousand dollars more than last year.
In a release officials say “This is significant because it shows the community understands the growing need for the services we provide, and the growing need for local financial support”
Money benefits support information, education, support and counselling services in the Grey-Bruce community.
In the meantime – donations can still be offered through the Walk for Memories website at www.walkformemories.ca until February 28th.
Last year, more than 13 hundred dollars were donated after the walk took place.
