Georgian Bluffs and Owen Sound City officials are meeting tonight to maul over a new recreation agreement.
As Bayshore Broadcasting News first told you last month — Georgian Bluffs voted against extending their current agreement with the Scenic City.
Georgian Bluffs Councillor Ryan Thompson, who sits on their negotiating committee team, says the old agreement just doesn’t make sense anymore.
Thompson says in the middle of their last contract Owen Sound — acting on their own — made a new agreement with the YMCA to take over certain aspects of recreation from the city.
Thompson says that’s completely fine, however, he says Georgian Bluffs doesn’t have an agreement with the YMCA, so they’ve decided to re-negotiate.
Thompson says its all about striking the right balance and getting the best value for Georgian Bluffs residents.
Tonight’s meeting begins at 7 PM at Owen Sound City Hall.
The agreement allows Georgian Bluffs residents to participate in sports in Owen Sound for the same cost given to city taxpayers, however, without that contract it would cost an additional 75 dollars each year.
The current agreement expired at the end of 2011.
