The advocacy group STOP — Saugeen Turbine Operation Policy — is calling out Saugeen Shores Council.
STOP Spokesperson Greg Schmalz tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the impact from the CAW erecting a single wind turbine in Port Elgin is already being felt by local builders.
He says Barry’s Construction lost three or four home sales on Stickel Street just last week.
He says the buyers that backed out cited the CAW wind turbine as their reason.
Schmalz also says their largest residential lot owner in Port Elgin, Mariposa Homes, lost a block sale of homes to a builder because of the turbine.
As a group STOP is calling out council because Schmalz says they need to act now to protect the health, wealth and safety of their residents.
In a presentation to Council on Monday, Schmalz asked councillors to form a health and safety committee with STOP — something Mayor Mike Smith says they will consider.
Meanwhile, Schmalz feels the CAW itself is a victim like everybody else, even those residents who didn’t oppose the turbine when it was first announced.
Schmalz says STOP have an agreement in writing from the CAW that they will act if people start getting sick, but he says they need the town to do an official legal contract with the CAW.
He says they have to hold the CAW’s feet to the fire to hold that promise.
