Hanover is the latest municipality to reject the draft budget from the Saugeen Conservation Authority.
Hanover Councillors call the proposed 11 per cent increase to the town’s portion of the Conservation levy too high.
Deputy Mayor Bob White says Hanover is sending the budget back to the Authority Board to take another look at the numbers.
He wants to ensure the Board has cut all the corners it can without reducing services.
White says it’s not a huge budget — so it shouldn’t take too much to reduce the proposed levy increase.
But Councillor and Conservation Board Director Peter Hambly doesn’t believe there is much fat left to trim.
He says there are only a few options remaining — and those include cutting services, increasing fees or dipping into the reserve fund.
Hambly says the Board will have to put their heads together at the upcoming meeting to see what they can do.
Hanover’s proposed 11 per cent levy hike represents an 11 thousand dollar increase — raising the town’s portion of the budget to 111 thousand dollars.
