Keep music alive and well in Bruce and Grey Counties — that is the message for the Bruce Grey Catholic School Board.
Catholic Trustees have assured students that the Board will continue to support music programs in all 13 of its schools.
St. Joseph’s Elementary School Teacher Caroline Renaud feels it’s important teachers and students advocate for music funding.
Renaud is pleased with the trustee’s support — saying music is more than just food for the soul.
She says it provides students with a creative outlet and helps them develop many important life skills.
Studies also link playing a musical instrument with improved math skills.
Renaud says all you have to do is ask the kids about the benefits of music.
In a recent survey at St. Joseph’s Elementary in Port Elgin — students indicated that music class improved their concentration and coping skills.
They say it also helps boost confidence and enhances creativity.
