It won’t be long before the sound of hammers and saws will fill the air in Hanover.
The town is the site of the next project for Habitat for Humanity.
Executive Director Greg Fryer tells Bayshore Broadcasting News it’s their biggest project to date.
The project involves building four semi detached homes that will house eight families on 14th Street.
Fryer says Habitat is currently recruiting volunteers as well as raising funds for the project.
Fryer says they are 300 thousand dollars shy of the 700 thousand dollars needed to complete all eight homes.
The project will be phased in over the next few years — but Fryer tells us they want to build two homes this year.
But he admits the progress of the builds will depend upon how quickly the money for the projects can be raised.
Fryer says now is the time for perspective families to make an application to become a Habitat family.
Applications will be accepted from now until the end of February.
Qualified applicants must currently reside in Grey or Bruce Counties, rent not own.
They must also be in a situation where they need affordable housing and have an income level of less than 47 thousand dollars a year.
Fryer says it’s all about giving families a hand up — not a hand out.
Habitat families are also required to put in number of hours in sweat equity.
