The MPP for Bruce Grey Owen Sound has an idea on how the governing Liberals can reduce a 16 billion dollar deficit.
Progressive Conservative Bill Walker says the province should introduce tougher rules to recoup billion of dollars in unpaid fines.
Walker tells Bayshore Broadcasting News the amount of money owed just to Bruce and Grey Counties is outrageous — at 10 million dollars.
He says the people who actually commit the crimes need to pay them so municipalities don’t go over law abiding taxpayers.
Walker says the province should scrap existing laws and replace them with real enforcement controls that would allow municipalities to collect on delinquent accounts.
He points out provinces like Saskatchewan and Alberta have power with the federal government to garnish income.
The Ontario Association of Police Services Board has called for licence suspensions and vehicles to be impounded for delinquent offenders.
