Champion freestyle skier Sarah Burke is said to be in a coma this morning after a crash on a training run in advance of the Winter X games in Utah.
The 29 year old grew up in Midland — and is now the five time world champion and four time Winter X games winner in half-pipe skiing.
She successfully fought to have the sport included in the next Olympics in Korea.
Burke took what is being called a ‘bad fall’ at sponsors event at Park City, Utah on Tuesday afternoon, and was resuscitated on the hill before being airlifted to a hospital in Salt Lake City.
The National Post reports Burkes husband Rory Bushfield sent out a plea on his Twitter account on Tuesday — asking if there was anyone with a plane that could fly him and his mother-in-law from Vancouver to Salt Lake City.
