There is no room for long term care at the Hanover and District Hospital.
CEO Katrina Wilson says the Hanover hospital is concerned about the potential loss of 41 long term beds from the community.
But she says the hospital is not the answer to the problem.
Some residents had hoped the hospital could house the 40 long term care beds that may leave the Hanover Care Centre for Chesley’s Elgin Abbey Nursing Home.
That’s because the hospital has reduced the number of beds from 80 to 20.
But Wilson says they have already filled the space with its Family Health Team, specialist offices, the VON as well as other clinics and Day Surgery.
Wilson also points out the Hospital is in the business of acute care — not long term care.
