Kincardine council is already on record as recognizing that a downtown grocery store is needed — many residents feel the same way.
The Business Improvement Area has presented a petition to Council with almost 850 names on it.
It calls for a grocery store in the downtown core to replace the closed Foodland outlet.
BIA member Rick Clarke says they are working with the owner of the 18 thousand square foot property to see if another grocery service can be started up.
Clarke says they are looking at small and large scale stores.
Clarke admits there has been some interest from the grocery industry, primarily from out of town — but that’s as far as it’s gone.
Clarke says the first priority is to bring a grocery store back to downtown Kincardine.
If that doesn’t pan out — Clarke says they will try to bring in a mixed-use type of retail outlet to the vacant building.
