It’s going to cost a little more to swim, skate, play ball, hockey, register for summer camp or rent facilities within Hanover.
The town is increasing its program and facility rental rates in the new year.
The rate increases range from one to eight per cent.
The majority of the fee increases fall in the two per cent range for parks and recreational programming, and about eight per cent for facility rental rates.
Director of Recreation Sherri Walden defends the move by saying the increases amount to a 50 cent to 2.50 increase.
Walden says Hanover has worked hard to keep the increases at a minimum, however the cost of doing business continues to increase.
She notes even with the increase, the new rates do not even come close to breaking even with the actual program costs.
Walden notes most recreation programs only recover about 50 per cent of their actual cost with the rest being subsidized through taxes.
Walden adds the new fee increases will help offset rising program costs.
The new rates will take effect on January 1st — with the exception of programs that are in mid season in which case the new rates will begin in March.
