She hasn’t been on the job for very long but 2011 was a very busy year for the Progressive Conservative MPP for Huron-Bruce.
Lisa Thompson was among a number of rural Tories elected to the Legislature on October 6th.
She toppled veteran Liberal Carol Mitchell who had been Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs when the House was dissolved prior to the fall campaign.
Thompson get out of the blocks in January 2011 helping to spread the word against the Ontario hydro debt retirement charge that still appears on our Hydro bills.
She also campaigned against the province’s Green Energy Act and called for a re-think on provincial policy concerning wind and solar power.
It has been a year of highs and lows for Thompson.
Just two months after she was elected the Walkerton Jail closed on December 4th.
She regards the Walkerton Jail closure as a failure of provincial corrections policy and what she calls proof that the Liberal government turns a deaf ear to the concerns of rural Ontarians.
Thompson is moving her local operations into a new constituency office in Blyth this week and re-locating her Kincardine office to a more central location.
The Legislature re-convenes at the end of February.
