Brockton Council has agreed to waive ice team fees for the municipalities Special Olympic Speed Skating Team.
Mayor David Inglis says it’s the least they can do to support these speed skaters.
He says they are a great group of athletes that have brought home many medals for Brockton in the past.
Brockton is also allowing almost double the ice time the Special Olympians had last year.
Staff don’t foresee a problem with this — as the Special Olympic Speed Skating ice time doesn’t take place during peak hours.
The athletes are using the ice every Tuesday from 4 PM till 5 PM until the end of February.
Inglis says he wouldn’t be surprised if the Speed Skaters bring home a number of medals this year.
The athletes range in age from 10 to 51.
Coach Cathy Cormack says the extra ice time will give them that competitive edge they need to compete.
