Georgian Bluffs turned down a request from Owen Sound to extend their recreation agreement.
Instead Mayor Al Barfoot says Georgian Bluffs wants to re-negotiate a new agreement with the City.
The current agreement expires at the end of 2011 and Owen Sound asked Georgian Bluffs to extend it with certain terms.
Mayor Al Barfoot says instead of signing it back, Council decided Wednesday to counter back to Owen Sound with a request to negotiate a new agreement in early 2012.
Barfoot says in all fairness Owen Sound added some new clauses that Georgian Bluffs don’t agree with.
Barfoot says they want a negotiating team to ink out a new deal similar to what they did with library services.
Deputy Mayor Dwight Burley asked staff to come back to council with recreation numbers from 2011 that the negotiating team can use when they meet in the new year.
The agreement covers all recreation uses like minor sports programs, day camps and other services they have contracted with the City.
