This is a big day for the Red Kettle campaign for the Owen Sound and Port Elgin Salvation Army.
Any donations made Thursday in the kettles at the two Walmart stores in the communities will be matched by corporate head office up to a maximum of 100 thousand dollars.
Today is being dubbed the “Walmart Fill the Kettle Day.”
The Salvation Army could use the help.
Spokesperson Alice Wannan tells Bayshore Broadcasting News they are still 32 thousand dollars short of their goal.
To date, about 48 thousand dollars has been collected in the kettles and the Sally Ann’s goal is 80 thousand.
The money raised will help cover expenses for the food bank and other programs next year.
