Some people call award winning chef and food entertainer Ted Reader the “King of the Q.”
But Reader says he just happens to be a regular guy who loves to barbecue for a living, cooking real food for real people.
Reader helped Bruce County launch the 2009 edition of it’s Explore the Bruce Adventure Passport tourism promotion on Wednesday.
For three years, he hosted the King of the Q program on CTV, and makes regular appearances on Canada AM and even Live! With Regis and Kelly.
The former executive chef for President’s Choice and author of 14 cookbooks has been called “the Crazy Canuck barbecue kingpin” by GQ magazine.
Reader says it’s okay to buy food at the grocery store, but local things are often available that are simply the best.
He says people should buy the best food they can within their price range.
Reader says anything can be cooked on the grill, the person doing it just has to have a “no fear” attitude and some imagination.
When it comes to cooking that perfect burger this summer, he says keep the lid open and have medium to high heat.
Don’t squish it, push it poke it, or cut it — just let it cook.
Reader says if it’s tasty when finished, the cook has done the job properly.
Reader says it doesn’t matter what celebrity or TV chefs say, the most important chef at any backyard grill is the person doing the cooking.
Reader has also served as the executive chef at the Skydome Hotel in Toronto and a well-known restaurant in Brantford during his 25 year career.
His interest in cooking began at an early age preparing recipes he copied from the old TV program Celebrity Cooks with Bruno Gerussi.
