A rededication ceremony is being held for the new Shallow Lake Cenotaph.
Georgian Bluffs Manager of Buildings and Facilities Bill Klingenberg says after a year of work, the cenotaph and park upgrades are complete.
Klingenberg says the original cairn, built in 1946, has been replaced with a single, large Bruce Peninsula stone.
The original plaque is set into a display wall.
Klingenberg says the project was important because the original structure was beginning to fall apart.
He adds they also wanted to rejuvenate the surrounding park.
Work included building a platform for ceremonies and events, creating a parking lot and picnic area, removing hazardous trees, installing more lighting, and making the area wheelchair accessible.
For today’s rededication ceremony, members of the Royal Canadian Legion Hepworth Shallow Lake Branch will participate in a parade.
Starting at the Shallow Lake United Church, they’ll follow a pipe band to the new cenotaph at Shallow Lake Veterans Park.
A ribbon cutting will be held at 10 AM at the cenotaph.
And a lunch will be held afterwards at the Hepworth Shallow Lake Legion.
