Despite the criticism it’s received — the Bluewater public school board has plans for change in 2011.
Chair of the Board Marg Gaviller admits it isn’t perfect, but states changes have already begun.
Gaviller says having two meetings per month instead of one and giving the public 20 minutes instead of 10 gives you more of a chance to voice your opinion.
She also says evening meetings make it easier for people to attend and the webcast helps those at home follow along.
However — Gaviller says she doesn’t want to talk about the past, and instead looks to the future.
One of her goals — she says — for the new year is to listen more to the concerns and opinions of parents, students and teachers.
She notes trustees will be more informed about situations where the superintendent had to be involved at the school level.
Other goals Gaviller has for 2011 include improving the perception of the board and making sure issues are fully resolved.
Gaviller also notes there is room for improvement as far as changing the board room around is concerned and says they are open to suggestions.
