The Ontario Court of Appeals is hosting a trial with four Walkerton students.
But don’t worry — they’re not on the wrong side of the law.
The Grade 12 law students at Sacred Heart High School won the Canadian Charter Challenge whose prize included taking part in a mock trial.
They compete on Wednesday against a team of students from a school in Ottawa.
Student Trustee Matthew McClean says the tribunal will be made up of a Superior Court Judge, a legal clerk and an appeals lawyer.
McClean calls it an awesome opportunity for students to gain a better understanding of Canada’s legal system.
The Charter Challenge Sacred Heart High School finalists include Michelle Andrews, Danielle Hetsler, Kyle, McCarthy and Janelle Ruetz.
High school students across Ontario competed in an online mock trial simulation based on real world scenarios to become finalists in the provincial competition.
The Walkerton school managed to beat out all of the private schools in the province and is the first rural school to have won the Challenge.
