A home in Wiarton has been destroyed by fire.
The South Bruce Peninsula fire department was called a home on Berford Lake Road around 5 PM on Monday.
Fire Chief Dan Robinson tells us the home was fully engulfed in flames by the time they arrived on the scene.
The two storey, red brick home was over 100 years old with a steel roof — and Robinson says the fire created a lot of heat and made it difficult for fire fighters.
Robinson notes they had to shuttle water down the thousand foot laneway, which also made fighting the fire challenging.
No one was hurt as a family of four managed to escape the blaze but was visibly shaken.
Robinson says they had the flames under control by Midnight — but firefighters remain on the scene until after 7 AM Tuesday.
The fire destroyed the home and damage is estimated at 350 thousand dollars.
Robinson says the fire is not suspicious but they are still trying to pinpoint the cause.
