Owen Sound Police Services have unveiled their newest pride and joy.
Their building on 2nd Avenue West was officially opened up to the community yesterday afternoon.
Its been under renovation for two years and includes a large addition, a new cell block, a community meeting room and walls that are now free from asbestos.
Deputy Police Chief Bill Sornberger says it was a challenge working 24/7 in a reno job for so long but its finally completed.
He says the old building was far too small and completely inadequate to meet the needs of the community or the officers.
The building didn’t even have a shower in case officers came back after a tustle on the ground or having been pepper sprayed.
He says they’d have to book off sick and go home to shower.
Now they have a shower facility, a locker room and a new community meeting room that will be given to non profit agencies.
The cost of the renovation was about 5 million dollars.
The new police building will be open to the public starting tomorrow and right through Police Week next week.
