You have the chance to learn about safety today in Saugeen Shores.
Bruce Safe Communities is presenting a Safety Festival at the Plex.
Program Co-ordinator Darlene Noble said recently on Soundingboard that Bruce Safe Communities evolved from the off the job safety team at Bruce Power in 2006.
She says the festival is meant to fulfill Bruce Safe Communities’ goal of teaching safety programs in local communities and meeting its five mandates of road, childrens, safety, farm, and workplace safety.
Noble says 33 partners are involved and will be providing safety demonstrations and displays.
She says the exhibits will be interactive because the message gets out easier if people can get involved hands on.
Noble says they’ll have a vehicle rollover simulator from CAA and a fire department demonstration extricating crash victims from cars.
Little Obie, a miniature freight train from CN will also be on hand to demonstrate safety around railway tracks.
Noble says while there aren’t any active rail lines in Saugeen Shores, people from here should know proper safety procedures around railways for whenever they travel.
The Safety Festival runs from 10 AM to 8 PM today, at the Plex in Port Elgin.
