Huron Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell is handing out more money.
The Liberal MPP was in Goderich Friday afternoon to announce a 300 thousand dollar grant for Huron County derived from “Communities in Transition”.
The money comes from the provinces “Communities in Transition” program.
Mitchell says when the Province knew that there were going to be a lot of closures in the manufacturing sector they developed a transition fund for communities that have one large employer.
She says the funding is designed to help provide transition options for those communities that were hit hard.
Warden Ken Oke says the money, along with the county’s portion of a 138 thousand, will be spread out throughout the counties lower tiers.
It will go towards conducting a property assessment to attract new investment that would re-use the existing Volvo plant in Goderich.
Goderich Deputy Mayor John Grace says the funding will also help Goderich with planning costs for re-developing the harbour.
The funding will also help develop a business case for using the Centralia College facility as a aeronautics or airplane refurbishing training facility.
As well as developing a plan for the Can-Gro site in Exeter and the Wescast site in Wingham.
