The number of confirmed cases doesn’t show it yet, but health officials believe there are more people with flu this year in Grey Bruce, than last year at this time.
The Program Manager of Infectious Disease at the Grey Bruce Health Unit, Karen Sweiger says just a half dozen cases (6) are confirmed in the area, but that is likely just the tip of the iceberg.
Sweiger says most people stay home if they get the flu, so it is hard to judge how widespread the disease is.
Ontario health officials confirm nearly 11 hundred people have been tested and confirmed to have influenza in the province.
That compares with a normal level of about 400 cases at this time of the year.
By comparison, the province had reported 76-hundred positive tests at this point last year during the H-1-N-1 pandemic.
Province wide, health officials say only about 24 percent of the people bothered to get a flu shot this year, compared with the normal level of 35 percent.
