A man from Ayton has been fined 450 dollars after he shot his friend in the leg.
Gregory Lantz was convicted of discharging a firearm without due care and attention for people.
In addition, his hunting privileges were suspended for one year and he must successfully complete the Ontario Hunter Education Course before a new licence will be issued.
An Owen Sound court heard that Lantz was in West Grey in a group hunting deer during the 2009 rifle hunting season — and they drove some deer out of a bush lot.
As the deer ran across an open field, Lantz fired three shots from a high-powered rifle.
One of the men in the deer hunting party was hit in the leg by one of the bullets.
West Grey Police Service and the Owen Sound Ministry of Natural Resources Conservation Officers conducted a probe of the incident.
The fine was handed down last month by Justice of the Peace David Stafford in Owen Sound.
