The Kincardine Home and School Association and the Parent Council have taken the Ministry of Education up on its offer to comment on fees and fundraising in our schools.
A letter was sent to the Bluewater District School Board asking for support to call for an end to fees for materials in core subjects.
Kincardine Huron Kinloss trustee Jan Johnstone brought the letter forward on Tuesday night.
Johnstone says some students, particularly in high school, are paying for supplies they need to complete projects that are part of core subjects such as science and in some cases art.
She says students don’t like the set-up, either for normal classroom activities or for extra curricular activities.
The letter, by concerned parents, says the fee and fundraiser concept in schools right now, creates two sets of students — the “haves” and the “have-nots.”
The board agreed to endorse the letter being written by the Kincardine groups with a letter stating their support to the Ministry of Education.
