The Leader of the federal opposition was busy Friday drumming up support in Huron-Bruce.
Stephane Dion spent his day in the Exeter-area to bolster the election hopes of Liberal candidate Greg McClinchey and to promote his party’s “Green Shift Plan”.
Unlike an urban resident, a person in Huron-Bruce may not be able to avoid the carbon tax because they have no means to public transportation, however, Dion says his “Green Shift Plan” addresses that.
Dion says the “Green Shift Plan” really helps lower income families and rural families.
He says there will be a “Green rural credit” of $150 per tax filer.
For two tax filers in your household that is $300 per year and Dion says the cost for a household that is using natural gas the direct cost for electricity and heating will be about $250 so it will more then offset their cost related to the carbon tax.
He says the additional “Green rural credit” is designed to help citizens like those in Huron-Bruce adjust to the carbon tax, and he add’s that only the Liberal plan does that.
Dion’s addressed a crowd of about 200 citizens and politicians visit at a noon-hour public barbecue at McNaughton Park in Exeter.
Dion offered his support for McClinchey who is bidding to keep Huron-Bruce in the Liberal ranks in Parliament after incumbent MP Paul Steckle steps down.
