Plans to establish a gravel pit in Teeswater will have to wait a little bit.
Teeswater Concrete applied for a zoning amendment to allow for a gravel pit and aggregate extraction at location south of their existing plant in Teeswater.
However, South Bruce Council deferred the decision last night on the recommendation of Bruce County Planner Heather James.
There were some concerns addressed by residents living near the proposed site about the impact from noise and truck traffic, and of the gravel pit is going to affect water wells.
Glen McConkey tried to address those concerns to Council.
He says a noise study had been conducted and it was within the Ministry of the Environment guidelines of 50 decibels.
He says another comprehensive noise study will be done to ensure that the decibel level does not exceed the limit.
McConkey says the firm is also conducting more water testing to find out where the ground water table is.
He says they will have to stay at least a metre and a half above that for excavation.
McConkey says there will be another meeting regarding an amendment to the Bruce County Official Plan.
He says there will also be another public meeting for the zoning change and one with the Ministry of Natural Resources for the approval of the gravel pit.
