Some Sauble-area residents are working hard to improve living conditions in Haiti.
Earlier this year, 21 members of Sauble Christian Fellowship went on a mission to Haiti, and took with them $100,000 worth of construction material, tools, school supplies, and small gifts.
Mission member Jim Howe says the group worked on building a home for the aged, and began working on 40 home “pods” for orphaned children.
Howe says Haiti has 480,000 orphans.
He says there are four homes in a pod, and each home houses six to eight children and a housemother to care from them.
Another group will head to Haiti in 2009, and work is underway in the region to provide supplies for the trip.
Howe says plastic milk bags are being transformed into sleeping mats at Central Place in Owen Sound.
He says while not everyone can go on the next trip, they can help by making donations.
