A youth coalition is being organized in Owen Sound.
The Grey Bruce Health Unit and the Owen Sound and North Grey Union Public Library are the ones working together to form one in the scenic city.
17 year old Jasmin Dalton from West Hill Secondary School is the Chair of the Youth Coalition.
Dalton says they are trying to follow in the foot steps of other youth coalitions in Meaford, Hanover and Saugeen Shores to make Owen Sound a more youth friendly community.
Dalton says many teens have expressed how the city is a great retirement community and have many other sites for little kids but there is nothing really for the youth.
Mayor Ruth Lovell attended one of the most recent meetings held by the youth coalition and says this is a great idea.
Lovell says it’s really important to hear from the youth of the community on what they like or don’t like and how they can improve on that.
The coalition held a meeting last night at the library for the youth in the city to give ideas of what events the city can hold that are more youth oriented plus plan an event to celebrate International Youth Day on August 12th.
Dalton says the ideas from the meeting last night will be presented to the adults of the coalition to help try give the youth in the city a voice.
