The waiting game continues for Grey Bruce Health Services.
The organization is waiting for the provincial government to make a decision on a new hospital for Markdale.
Recently, Health Minister George Smitherman said the Ministry is not in a position to move the project forward at this time.
He says money is standing in the way between Markdale and a new hospital.
CEO Pat Campbell says the minister’s comment did not take them by surprise.
However, Campbell says its would be very nice if the province were to make an announcement that the project was moving into implementation.
She says the Markdale hospital was not included in this year’s provincial budget, adding the budget focused more on infrastructure other than hospitals.
Campbell says they are continuing to work on the planning process, adding they are working with the local elected officials to move the project forward.
She says its going to be a matter of the government being in a position to approve it.
The local fundraising committee has raised around $13 million for the new hospital, and is asking the province for another $50 to $60 million to cover the costs.
