If you go into the woods these days, you could be in for a big surprise.
You could stumble across a marihuana grow operation.
OPP are warning the public that during the summer months, people involved in growing marihuana head to rural areas like Grey Bruce to plant and tend their plants.
Inspector Bryan Martin is Deputy Director OPP Drug Enforcement section and says swamps, corn fields wooded areas are where these illicit crops are usually located.
He says some of the signs of an outdoor marihuana grow operation are bags of fertilizer or planting trays in the area, people walking in a remote area for no reason or well trampled trails in wooded or swampy areas.
Martin says if you come across a grow op, leave the area right away and call police.
He warns that many cases the outdoor grow ops are protected by booby traps and the plant have been treated with chemicals that could cause injury.
Martin says marihuana plants are easy to spot as they are bright green, with leaves that have seven jagged fingers and the plants have an odour similar to that of a skunk.
